【平成30年9月25日】米国サーフィン競技団体代表の本市訪問

本市では、復興「ありがとうホストタウン推進事業の一環として、米国より、震災時にいただいた支援に対する感謝の気持ちを表し、本市のサーフツーリズムの復活と復興状況の発信を目的に、2020年東京オリンピック・パラリンピックに向けて、静岡県牧之原市と共に米国サーフィン競技選手団との交流を進めています。

米国サーフィン競技団体（USA Surfing Inc.）の代表グレッグ・クルーズ氏が、米国代表チームを率いて参加した「2018サーフィン世界選手権」（2018 ISA ワールド・サーフィン・ゲームス：愛知県田原市）の終了後、本市を訪れました。
クルーズ氏は北泉海岸でサーフィンを行ったり、市役所を訪れ門馬市長と面談したしました。
面談では、市内のサーフィン関係者を交えて、本市のサーフィン環境の現状と今後の交流について意見を交換しました。

本市は、2020年東京オリンピック・パラリンピックに向けて、引き続き交流を進めます。

 Our city, Minamisoma has been developing “Reconstruction [ARIGATO] Host-Town Project” to express our gratitude for various supports from the U.S. at that time of the East Japan Great Earthquake Disaster and exchange program of the project facilitates our purpose for the Surfing-Tourism revival plan for Minamisoma and transmission of appropriate information about city’s reconstruction status all over the world. We have promoted exchange programs between the USA Surfing Team together with Makinohara city of Shizuoka registered as the Host Town heading to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
 According to our request, CEO of the USA Surfing Inc. which led the USA Surfing Team to take part in the 2018 ISA World Surfing Games (WSG at Tahara city, Aichi), Mr. Greg Cruse visited Minamisoma in September 24th and 25th after the WSG. Mr. Cruse played surfing at Kitaizumi beach and we talked about current circumstances surrounding surfing in Minamisoma and future plan of the exchange program in frankly manner together with persons concerned at the city mayor’s visitation. We, Minamisoma has continued exchange program of “Reconstruction [ARIGATO] Host-Town Project” toward the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
