Collection of Used Small Household Appliances

1 Purpose

In response to the "Act on the Promotion of Recycling Used Small Electronic Devices, etc.", which was enforced starting from April 2013, the city collects used small household electronic devices (cellphones, digital cameras, small game consoles, etc.) from August 1st, 2017, in order to promote the recycling of resources such as rare metals.

2 Collection Method

Collection boxes are set up at 10 key points throughout the city to collect used appliances.

Locations of the collection boxes are as follows.

Established Locations (Public Facilities)

1. Minamisoma City Hall (within the main building entrance)

2. Kashima Ward Office (near the west entrance on the 1st floor)

3. Odaka Ward Office (inside near the front entrance on the 1st floor)

4. Takahira Lifelong Learning Center

5. Ota Lifelong Learning Center

6. Hibari Lifelong Learning Center

7. Omika Lifelong Learning Center

Established Locations (Private Facilities)

8. Michi no Eki Minamisoma Furusato Return Support Center (inside the main building)

9. Aeon Supercenter Minamisoma Branch (inside near the west entrance)

10. Super Shishido Kashima Branch (inside the building)

4 Collectable Household Appliances

Of the 11 items listed below, those that are able to fit in the above slots are collectable.

1 Cellphones

Cellphones, PHS terminals, smartphones, etc.

2 Computers

Notebooks, tablets, etc.

3 Communication Equipment

Telephones, fax machines, etc.

4 Radios

Radios, etc.

5 Video Equipment

Digital cameras, video cameras, DVD-Video, HDD recorders, BD recorders/players, video tape recorders (set), tuners, STB (set top box), etc. 

6 Audio Equipment

MD players, digital audio players (flash memory), digital audio players (HDD), CD players, tape recorders excluding decks, IC recorders, hearing aids, etc.

7 Storage Devices

Hard disks, USB memory sticks, memory cards, etc.

8 Electronic Terminals

E-book readers, electronic dictionaries, calculators, etc.

9 Home Game Consoles

Home video game consoles (stationary game consoles, portable game consoles, etc.), etc.

10 Car Electronics

Car Navi (GPS), car tuners, car stereos, car radios, car CD players, car DVD, car MD, VICS units, ETC in-vehicle units, etc.

11 Accessories

Remote controllers, AC adapters, cables, plugs・jacks, chargers, etc.

5 Precautions

  • Equipment subject to the Home Appliance Recycling Law (TVs, refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, air conditioners), as well as light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, and batteries cannot be collected.
  • If the device contains personal information, please delete the data in advance.
  • For computer-related devices (desktop computers, displays, etc.) that are not subject to collection, ask the manufacturer to collect them.
  • Once in the collection box, it cannot be taken out. Please check carefully before putting it inside.
  • It is not possible to use the collection boxes outside of the facility hours.
