The Soma Area in the Cenozoic Era: The Age of Saber-Toothed Tigers

2022 is the year of the tiger in the Chinese zodiac.

The Soma area and tigers... an unlikely pair with seemingly no relation, but have you heard of the large animals in the cat family that lived long ago, known as saber-toothed tigers?

They roamed the land between 4 million and 2.58 million years ago.

Teeth and bones have been discovered in the Dainenji Formation of sediment that was spread out across the Soma area during that time period.

All sorts of other creatures lived alongside the saber-toothed tigers.

Through this display, we will introduce the various animals who lived in the Soma area during that period, whose bones were discovered in the Dainenji Formation.
