From October 1st, 2012, in order to prevent the rights and dignities of people with disabilities from being threatened by abuse, the “Act on Prevention of Abuse of Persons with Disabilities, Support for Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities, etc. Law” was enacted. This also stipulates the obligation to report those who notice abuse happening.
Types of Abuse ・ Signs of Abuse

The cause of abuse is a combination of various factors such as a lack of understanding regarding disabilities, fatigue from providing long-term care, and troubles in relationships. Even if there is abuse, it is possible that the person is not aware that they are being abused, or that the caregiver or support is unaware of causing abuse, doing such in the name of discipline or guidance.
An important counter measure against abuse of persons with disabilities is “early detection.”
