更新日:2021年03月03日

In order to widely announce to other cities that Minamisoma will overcome the nuclear accident caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake and promote town development that does not depend on nuclear energy, the city announced the "Declaration of a City without Nuclear Power" at the 2nd regular meeting in 2015. We reported to the parliament that we would like to do so and announced it on March 25, 2015.

Declaration of a City without Nuclear Power (March 25, 2015 Notification No. 29)

On March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake caused unprecedented damage to Minamisoma City.

Furthermore, the accident at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station forced more than 60,000 citizens to evacuate, and many of them died during the evacuation.

Families have fallen apart, regions have fallen apart, towns have fallen apart, and many are worried about radiation.

Minamisoma City must face this worldwide historical disaster and recover.

In order for the children on whom the future rests to live with dreams and hopes, such a nuclear disaster must never occur again.

To that end, Minamisoma City has decided to promote town development that does not depend on nuclear energy.

Minamisoma City hereby declares to the world that it will be a city without nuclear power.

Minamisoma City Renewable Energy Promotion Vision

In December 2011, the city formulated the "Minamisoma City Reconstruction Plan" and set out to aim for coexistence with the environment, such as the conversion from nuclear power to renewable energy, the establishment of locations to do so, and the promotion of energy conservation policies as basic measures. We are promoting renewable energy initiatives as an important measure for achieving reconstruction.

We have formulated the "Minamisoma City Renewable Energy Promotion Vision," which serves as a compass for promoting renewable energy.

This vision aims to produce electricity equal to or more than the power consumption of the city with renewable energy, promote the revitalization of industries from before the Great East Japan Earthquake, create new industries, and use energy as efficiently as possible in daily life, all rooted in the aim for local production and consumption of energy.
