Owning a Dog

Dogs are the among the most familiar animals to humans. Many people have dogs as pets. However, the decision to own a dog comes with the responsibility to raise them properly and look after them for their entire life.

Keeping to the following guidelines, let’s be considerate towards those around us when raising a dog.

Dogs are animals that, when cared for properly, will respond in kind.

Be sure to thoroughly understand a dog’s instinct and behavior when raising a dog, as well as your responsibility to care for them throughout their lifetime.

Training your dog is very important for cohabitation. Regularly train your dog in a suitable way, keeping any loud barking or bad smells from affecting your neighbors.

Allowing your dog to roam without a leash is prohibited by prefectural regulations. Even if the owner feels that their dog is calm and well-behaved, others may still be afraid of the dog.

When on a walk, please always have your dog on a leash attached to their collar, being walked by someone who can keep them in check.

Furthermore, please don’t allow them free range even on your own property in order to prevent them from intimidating or causing injury to visitors such as the mail carrier.

Dog poop is unpleasant for others when left in public area such as parks or streets.

Please carry a plastic bag with you in order to clean up after your dog, and take this bag home with you for disposal.

If you become unable to care for your dog, please look for someone to take them rather than simply discarding your pet.
