Rabies Vaccination for Your Dog
About the Rabies Vaccination
By law, every dog 91 days and older must receive a rabies vaccination once every year (generally between April 1 and June 30).
Please take your dog to the vet to receive their rabies shot. You will then be issued a Rabies Vaccination Certificate.
After Getting the Rabies Vaccination...
After getting the rabies vaccination, you will need to receive the Vaccination Slip from the city.
Please bring the Rabies Vaccination Certificate to the city hall or ward office nearest you, along with the Vaccination Slip issuance fee (550 yen per dog). Attach the slip to your dog.
For those who have a Letter of Invitation for Vaccinations, please bring that as well.
If Your Dog is Sick, Pregnant, or Elderly...
There may be times when your dog is unable to get the rabies vaccination, due to their health.
In these situations, please get an examination by a veterinarian rather than making a judgement call yourself.
If the vet judges that your dog should not get the rabies vaccination, they will give you a Rabies Vaccination Postponement Certificate. Please submit this to the city hall or ward office nearest you.
