Fukushima Robot Test Field
Here in Minamisoma you can find the prefecture-run Fukushima Robot Test Field (RTF). The RTF was created based on the Fukushima Innovation Coast Framework, and is one of the largest research and development bases in the world. Several environments have been recreated on-site to provide actual operating conditions for verification tests, performance evaluation, and operation training. The RTF was constructed mainly for the testing of a large variety of aerial, underwater, and land robots, such as unmanned aircraft expected to be used for logistics, infrastructure inspection, and disaster response, as well as auto-pilot robots and underwater exploration robots.
The Minamisoma City Reconstruction Industrial Park stretches around 1000 meters east to west and 500 meters north to south. Here you can find the unmanned aircraft facilities, the infrastructure inspection and disaster response robot facilities, the underwater and maritime robot facilities, and the development base facilities. The Namie Town Tanashio Industrial Park to the south contains a runway to allow for long-distance flight testing.
