Minamisoma’s Local Specialties
Gohonjin (御本陣)
Japanese sake produced in Minamisoma made from “Yume no Ka” brewer’s rice.
You can purchase Gohonjin in alcohol stores, convenience stores, and supermarkets in Minamisoma.
Rice
Fukushima Prefecture’s original brand of rice, “Ten no Tsubu,” features a beautiful sheen and a sturdy texture. Being near the ocean with a temperate climate, Minamisoma is perfectly suited for steadily cultivating rice of high quality.
Vegetables
We are proud to be the foremost producer of broccoli in Fukushima Prefecture. We also produce a wide variety of other items such as pumpkins, cucumbers, green onions, and tomatoes.
Fruits
Our Japanese pear production is thriving, with various types of Japanese pears from “kosui” to “hosui.” We also make limited amounts of Japanese pear juice.
We also recommend trying our Fukushima Prefecture original brand of strawberries, “Fukuharu Ka.”
Nomaoi Goods
Folding fans, cloths, towels, cowhide drawstring purses, paper art, tableware, teacups, mugs... Come find the perfect souvenir from Soma Nomaoi (horse festival).
Tsukemono (Japanese Pickled Vegetables)
From pickled cucumbers to miso-flavored vegetable dishes, tsukemono is filled with the pride of mothers everywhere in Minamisoma. It goes perfectly with a piping hot bowl of rice.
