Special Child Support Allowance

Benefits are provided to those who are under 20 years old (youths, and children) and have a severe disability that causes them to be homebound, requiring care full-time in their daily lives.

A father or mother who is caring for a child under the age of 20 with a physical or mental disability to the extent specified by the government ordinance, or a person raising the child on behalf of the parents.

(NOTE) In the following cases, no allowance will be given.

• If the person who intends to receive the allowance or the target child does not have an address in Japan.
• If the child is in a facility such as a physically handicapped children’s facility or a mentally handicapped children’s facility
• If the child can receive a public pension such as a welfare pension because of a disability.

The monthly amount provided for the special child support allowance per child from April 2019 is as follows.

Application is required to receive allowance payment.

If the income of the eligible person or dependent (such as direct lineage and siblings who have the same livelihood as the eligible person) from the previous year is equal to or higher than the income limit, then that year (from August to July of the following year), the allowance will be stopped.

• Level 1 (severely handicapped children) 52,500 yen
• Level 2 (children with moderate disabilities) 34,970 yen

(NOTE) The amount to be paid will change every year depending on the consumer price index and other factors.

The submitted documents will be examined and approved by the Governor of Fukushima Prefecture.

Once you are certified, you will receive benefits from the month following your billing month.

Payment will be made 3 times a year, and 4 months' allowance will be transferred to the account of the designated financial institution.

(NOTE) If the payment date is on a bank holiday, the allowance payment will be done on the earliest non-holiday before the usual payment date above.
