(5/15-6/13/2021) 3000-Year-Old Walnut Basket Display
The Sagiuchi archeological site was excavated as part of the construction of the prefectural special support school in 2017-2018, and 16 baskets and draining baskets were unearthed from the Jomon period 3000 years ago.
Most baskets like these completely decayed over time, and it is extremely rare to find such an artifact that has maintained its basic shape. Furthermore, among the baskets discovered was the “walnut basket,” crammed full of walnuts. This is the first such artifact found throughout all of Japan.
The preservative treatment process for this walnut basket and three other baskets has been completed, allowing the museum to display them to the public for the first time in a special exhibition.
