Getting to Know Soma Nomaoi

This historical structure is on the road where horseback warriors ride in a parade as one of Soma Nomaoi’s events.
You can come try on armor here (reservation required) or shop for a Nomaoi souvenir.

Hibarigahara Festival Grounds
The location of Soma Nomaoi’s highlights, the armored horse race and the sacred flag competition. Just the thought of the summer excitement here will bring a warmth to your chest, no matter what time of year you go.
Soma Ota Shrine
The location at which the ancient Nakano township (now Haramachi Ward) holds its departure ceremony.
When you visit, it’s worth seeing a shrine housing a symbolic replica of a sacred white horse.
Dokeiji Temple
A temple containing the family grave of the Soma Clan, which once ruled over the entire Soma domain. A sacred, sobering place full of gravitas.
Soma Odaka Shrine
A great location on the top of a hill, perfect for getting a view of the town stretching out below you. Seeing it in the spring with cherry blossoms in full bloom is an absolute must.
