(7/3-9/12/21) Soma Nomaoi: The Inherited Power of Tradition
Exhibition period extended to Sunday, September 12.
As we commemorate 10 years since the Tohoku earthquake this year, this display will focus on Soma Nomaoi’s path towards recovery since that disaster. We will also take a look back on the festival’s history through periods of trouble such as the Tenpo Famine, the Meiji Restoration, World War II, and COVID-19, and how various plans were used to ensure that Nomaoi would be inherited by the following generations. Thinking back on the many forms this tradition has taken, we will reconsider the core values of Soma Nomaoi.

In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the museum was closed from Thursday, July 8, to Saturday, July 31.

However, the museum will be open on July 26 (Mon.) and August 9 (Mon.), and closed the following Tuesdays (July 27, August 10)
Entrance Fee
General: 400 yen (350 yen)
High school student: 200 yen (150 yen)
ES/JHS student: 100 yen (80 yen)
Note: The entrance fee for permanent exhibits is included.
