Hazard Maps for Earthquakes, Tsunamis, etc.

更新日:2023年12月04日

Hazard maps predict possible damage caused by natural disasters and the potential range of the damage. They also provide information such as predicted disaster occurrence spots, the range and degree of the disaster, evacuation routes, and evacuation sites.

We recommend you download the maps beforehand so that you can use them even if a disaster or damage to communications leaves you unable to access the internet. There are also paper copies of the hazard maps (in Japanese) available* at the following windows for those who wish to pick one up.

  • Minamisoma City Hall (Disaster Management Division)
  • Odaka Ward Office (Regional Promotion Division)
  • Kashima Ward Office (Regional Promotion Division)

About Flooding

Maps of hypothesized flooding zones for the Niida River (新田川), Odaka River (小高川), and Mano River (真野川) were made based on flood prevention laws and are published on the Fukushima Prefecture website. The site is in Japanese, but you can copy and paste the above kanji to find information on the rivers.

About Landslides

Based on landslide prevention laws, the city has published landslide warning zones and landslide special warning zones in 180 locations (designated by Fukushima Prefecture).

Tsunamis

These maps use Fukushima Prefecture’s tsunami flooding predictions, which is based on the 2011 tsunami and tsunamis originating from the Boso-Oki area.

Earthquakes

The city ran independent simulations on three types of earthquakes (Futaba Fault earthquakes (active fault earthquakes), Fukushima offshore earthquakes (oceanic trench earthquakes), and near-field earthquakes), and mapped out the maximum seismic intensity for each 50m-square.
